Josh Schmerling

Principal

Josh Schmerling has spent his entire professional career engaged in law and politics.  After graduating from the University of Baltimore School of Law, Cum Laude, Josh joined forces with then-Maryland State Delegate Bobby Zirkin in both his law firm and in the political world.  

Josh worked as a legislative intern in the Maryland House of Delegates, served as campaign manager and fundraising chairman on multiple successful campaigns, and worked as community outreach coordinator and legislative aide to Senator Zirkin.  When Senator Zirkin ascended to the Chairmanship of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, Josh served as informal legal counsel on matters including workers’ compensation, civil, criminal, and family law.

From 2013—2019, Josh served on the Judicial Compensation Commission, having been appointed by Governor Larry Hogan.

Currently Josh is the managing partner of Zirkin and Schmerling Law, a full-service law firm in Baltimore.  Josh is a senior litigator at the firm, and has earned recognitions including the National Trial Lawyer’s Top 40 Under 40 and membership as a “Super Lawyer” in the State of Maryland. And Josh serves as general advisor and counsel to several professional athletes working with Katz Advisory, a sports agency representing NFL players. 

Josh is an active member in AIPAC (American Israeli Political Action Committee) and a board member of the Pikesville Jewish Congregation.  As a business owner, attorney, and experienced political operative, Josh brings a unique strategic approach to government affairs.

  • Josh began as an associate attorney for the Law Office of Bobby Zirkin and in 2011, was named as a Partner. The firm has since merged into Zirkin and Schmerling Law. Josh has handled hundreds of cases in courts throughout Maryland focusing his practice on personal injury cases and workers compensation. He is known throughout the legal community as a fierce and tireless advocate for his client and has earned millions for his clients in the areas of automobile, truck, and motorcycle accidents, as well as workers compensation claims. Josh has taught classes throughout Maryland on a variety of legal issues, including current laws related to automobile, truck, and motorcycle accidents as well as other personal injury claims.

  • Josh serves on a number of boards and committees in both the legal and greater community, and prides himself on his work to assist young people. Josh is a member of the Baltimore County Bar Association, the Anne Arundel County Bar Association, the Maryland Association for Justice, and the Maryland State Bar Association. Additionally, Josh is Vice President of Development for the Pikesville Jewish Congregation, a growing synagogue in the Baltimore area. Josh has also served on a school board and has coached high school level basketball for over 15 years. Josh is proud of his work as a mentor and coach for young people across the Baltimore region.
